CDX Extended Minerals Group Updated to Align with EMRT 2.0
The Compliance Data eXchange (CDX) system has updated its Extended Minerals substance group to reflect the recent changes in the Responsible Minerals Initiative's Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) version 2.0, released on April 25, 2025.
The CDX Extended Minerals substance group now includes aluminum, nickel, lithium, and copper, along with the previously tracked cobalt and mica substances. The expansion of the EMRT scope reflects evolving regulatory requirements and industry needs:
- Aluminum, nickel and lithium were added primarily to support reporting requirements under the EU Battery Regulation
- Copper was included because it has a significant number of identified eligible facilities in its supply chain, enhancing the RMI's ability to identify new facilities requiring assessment
These minerals are increasingly critical in clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, and electronics, making their responsible sourcing a growing priority for manufacturers and their customers.
This update enables users to comprehensively screen their Material Data Sheets (MDS) for these newly added substances. Users can now search for their existing Material Data Sheets (MDSs) to identify products containing these newly tracked minerals. This capability allows companies to:
- Prioritize products and suppliers for focused data collection efforts and targeted communication
- Develop a strategic approach to compliance while reducing supplier fatigue
- Enhance risk management related to human rights, environmental impacts, and regulatory changes
- Gain competitive advantage through greater supply chain transparency and optimization
- Support informed product development decisions and material substitution opportunities
By leveraging the updated CDX system to track these minerals, you gain visibility that extends beyond regulatory compliance to support strategic business decisions, risk management, and product innovation.
