IPC-1752: Compliance Update and CDX integration

May 12, 2025

The March 2025 update to the IPC-1752A standard, known as Amendment 3, introduces several important enhancements to this critical materials declaration management tool for the electronics industry. This update continues the standard's evolution to better facilitate compliance with environmental regulations like RoHS and REACH.

Key Changes in the March 2025 IPC-1752A Amendment

Updated RoHS Exemptions List
The update includes significant revisions to the RoHS substances and exemptions lists in Appendix B. This reflects the ongoing changes to the EU RoHS Directive, ensuring that manufacturers can accurately declare compliance with current regulations.

Exemption Status Updates
Several exemption statuses have been modified, including:

  • Exemption 2(b)(3) for mercury in non-linear tri-band phosphor lamps with tube diameter greater than 17 mm now has a 10 mg limit that expires on February 24, 2025.
  • Multiple other exemptions have had their expiration dates updated to reflect current regulatory timelines.

XML File Updates
The amendment includes updated XML files for Appendices B, C, D, E, and F, enhancing the standard's digital implementation capabilities. These updates ensure that the electronic exchange of material declaration data remains efficient and standardized.

Harmonization Efforts
The update continues the work to harmonize IPC-1752A with other standards in the IPC-175x family and with IEC 62474. This harmonization aims to create a more cohesive framework for materials declaration across different industries and regulatory requirements.

The IPC-1752A standard continues to serve for standardized material declaration management in the electronics industry, with these updates reflecting the ongoing commitment to environmental compliance and supply chain transparency.
