CDX Updated to Include New REACH Annex XVII Restrictions for DMAC and NEP

June 24, 2025

CDX has been updated to include recent amendments to the EU REACH Annex XVII Restricted Substances List. This update incorporates two new entries, Entry 80 for N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAC) and Entry 81 for 1-ethylpyrrolidin-2-one (NEP).

On June 3, 2025, the European Commission enacted Regulation (EU) 2025/1090, officially adding these two substances to the list of restrictions. DMAC and NEP, which are used as solvents in applications like synthetic fibers and coatings, have been restricted due to their classification as toxic to reproduction. This action places them under strict regulatory control for products manufactured or sold in the EU.

Details of the New Restrictions
The update introduces the following substance restrictions now available for reporting in CDX:

  • Entry 80: N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAC)
    • CAS No: 127-19-5
    • Restriction: Not to be placed on the market or used at concentrations of 0.3% or greater by weight
    • Effective Date: December 23, 2026 (with a deferral to June 23, 2029, for use as a solvent in man-made fiber production)
  • Entry 81: 1-ethylpyrrolidin-2-one (NEP)
    • CAS No: 2687-91-4
    • Restriction: Not to be placed on the market or used at concentrations of 0.3% or greater by weight
    • Effective Date: December 23, 2026

These new entries are now active within the CDX platform's REACH substance list. We advise all users to review their chemical inventories and product data to ensure compliance with these upcoming deadlines. Using the updated list will help ensure your declarations are accurate and meet the new EU requirements.
