Major industry substance lists updates

May 12, 2025

We are excited to announce that CDX Compliance Data eXchange has recently incorporated critical updates from three industry-specific lists:

  • the Rail Industry Substance List (RISL),
  • the IEC 62474 Declarable Substance List (DSL),
  • the Aerospace and Defense Declarable Substance List (AD-DSL).

These updates bring invaluable insights for industry professionals with navigating the complex landscape of regulatory compliance.

Rail Industry Substance List (RISL) Updates:
The Railway Industry Substance List (RISL) received its first update of 2025 this March, bringing important changes for manufacturers and suppliers across the rail sector.

This list provides an overview of prohibited and declarable chemicals within the railway industry. Its primary objective is to gather information from suppliers and sub-suppliers regarding materials and regulated substances. The 2025 update expands coverage beyond Europe to include substance restrictions in Australia, Canada, UK, US, Switzerland, and China.

Key changes include several newly restricted substances and updated threshold limits for existing entries, reflecting evolving global chemical policies affecting industry.

The Compliance Data eXchange (CDX) platform has integrated these updates, allowing our rail customers to access current compliance information through their existing systems. This integration helps manufacturers identify potential compliance issues earlier in production cycles.

IEC 62474 Declarable Substance List (DSL) Updates:
On March 3, 2025, the IEC 62474 Declarable Substance List (DSL) was updated to align with the latest European Chemicals Agency's revision of the EU REACH Candidate List.

IEC 62474 serves as the International Standard for material declaration within the electrical and electronics industry. This standard, specifically designed for the Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) sector, provides comprehensive guidelines for material declaration data exchange, material classifications, and exemption lists.

Aerospace and Defense Declarable Substances List Updated in CDX System
The International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG) released version 8.2 of the Aerospace and Defense Declarable Substances List (AD-DSL) on March 17, 2025. This update has been successfully implemented within the Compliance Data eXchange (CDX) system.

The latest revision focuses on streamlining the AD-DSL by eliminating duplicate substances and removing entries that are no longer required. The following substances have been deleted from the list:

IAEG ID CAS Name
IAEG009173 36483-57-5 2,2-dimethylpropan-1-ol, tribromo derivative, 3-bromo-2,2-bis(bromomethyl)-1-propanol (TBNPA)
IAEG000229 Not Applicable Cadmium compounds
IAEG000245 Not Applicable Inorganic cadmium compounds
IAEG000326 Not Applicable Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
