March 12, 2026

The fourth workshop of the Exchange & Capacity‑building Group on Battery Materials (ECaBaM) took place in Brussels on 27–28 January 2026, bringing together experts from across the battery value chain to exchange knowledge and support regulatory preparedness under the EU Batteries Regulation.
The workshop focused on advancing the understanding of substances of concern (SoCs) in batteries, reviewing progress under Phase 2 of the SoC study, and clarifying data needs relevant for potential future restriction processes. Participants discussed key challenges related to data quality, representativeness and coordination, with particular attention to gaps in information on emissions, exposure, recycling impacts and socio‑economic considerations.
