Guide for New Suppliers Getting Started with CDX and Responding to Your Material Data Sheet (MDS) Request

If you´ve landed here, you´ve likely received an email inviting you to respond to a Material Data Sheet (MDS) request on behalf of one of your customers. Don´t worry - we´re here to guide you every step of the way.

What is CDX?

The Compliance Data eXchange (CDX) is a powerful tool that helps companies manage compliance requirements for substances and materials used in products. By using CDX, you can fulfill your customer´s request while maintaining compliance with industry regulations, such as REACH, SCIP, and others.

What is an MDS (Material Data Sheet)?

A Material Data Sheet is a detailed record of materials and substances used in your products. It ensures compliance with industry and environmental regulations. Meeting compliance standards enhances your supply chain reliability and strengthens partnerships.

Why did I receive this Request?

Your customer has pre-registered your company in CDX and sent you a request for a Material Data Sheet.

Completing this request not only ensures compliance but also strengthens your partnership by demonstrating your commitment to transparency and regulatory standards.

Step 1: Activate Your CDX Account

If you received an invitation from your customer to join CDX, follow these simple steps to activate your account:

  • Start by clicking the "Activate my Company" link in the CDX invitation email. Your company has been pre-registered by your customer.
  • Enter Your Details - Fill in the required company and contact information, then click "Activate".
  • Copy Your User ID - Save your new CDX User ID/Username for future use.
  • Confirm Activation - Read the information and tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the activation process, then click "OK".
  • Reset Your Password
    • You´ll be redirected to the CDX Login Page.
    • Click "Request new password" below the Login Button, enter your User ID/Username and click "Submit".
    • Check your emails for the "Reset password" email and click the provided link.
  • Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) - Before setting your password, follow the MFA GUIDE.
  • Create Your Password - Choose a strong password, save and confirm it, and click "Submit".

Step 2: Logging into CDX

  • Go to CDX Login.
  • Click "Login"
  • Enter your User ID/Username and password and click "Sign in".
  • Enter the one-time code for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) e.g. from your mobile device 
  • Read and accept the Terms of Use (ToU)
  • Read and choose the desired options of the Data Protection and click "OK".

You´re now logged in and ready to use CDX!

Step 3: Find & Understand your MDS Request

  • Once your logged in, please go to your "Inbox" on the toolbar
  • Click on "MDS Request"
  • Click on "Search" on the right and see the requested information.
  • All your MDS requests are shown in the result table.
  • Mark the received MDS request and open it with a double click.

Step 4: Respond to the MDS Request

You will see that there are three options to answer your MDS Request:

Option A: Create MDS 

Option B: Assign MDS 

Option C: Reject and comment

Option A: Create MDS

To fulfill your customer´s request, you will need to create a Material Data Sheet (MDS) in CDX. This involves entering details about the materials and substances in your products. Follow the step-by-step guide to complete and submit your MDS accurately.

Option B: Assign MDS

If your company has previously created an MDS that matches the request, you can assign it instead of creating a new one. This simplifies the process and ensures consistency in compliance reporting. Learn how to search for and assign an existing MDS to a customer request.

Option C: Reject Request
