Australia Tightens PFAS Controls with Record-Keeping Requirements

Oktober 21, 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, Australia’s Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) bans or restricts certain PFAS (e.g., PFOS, PFOA, PFHxS) under the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management (Register) Instrument 2022. While these controls mirror the EU’s POP Regulation, compliance depends on thorough documentation and record-keeping to demonstrate adherence to prohibitions and restrictions.

What this means for business

Manufacturers, importers, and users of PFAS must implement robust record-keeping systems that track PFAS inventories, imports, exports, and uses. Well-organized documentation will be essential for responding to regulatory audits and avoiding enforcement actions.
