Battery Passport FAQ Available on the European Commission Website

September 16, 2026

Who is responsible for a battery passport? Does each battery module need its own passport? Which information must be available from February 2027? A dedicated FAQ on the European Commission’s website addresses these and other practical questions about implementing battery passports.

The FAQ covers responsibilities across the supply chain, the treatment of cells, modules and finished batteries, registration in the Digital Product Passport Registry, data requirements and access rights. It also discusses updating information during use and what happens when a battery is repaired, repurposed or remanufactured.

Among the points clarified: appointing another company to create or update a passport does not transfer the responsible operator’s legal obligations, and not every passport data field will be required from February 2027.

The FAQ is a reference for companies preparing their battery passport processes. It provides explanations but does not replace the requirements of the Batteries Regulation.
