Canada CEPA Schedule 1 Updated: Hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, 2-ethylhexyl ester Now Reflected in CDX

Mai 07, 2026

As of May 7, 2026, CDX has been updated to reflect the addition of Hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, 2-ethylhexyl ester (2-Ethylhexyl 2-Ethylhexanoate) to Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) - the List of Toxic Substances under Canadian federal law.

Background
CEPA Schedule 1 identifies substances formally designated as toxic under Section 64 of the Act,  meaning they pose a risk to human health, the environment, or both. A Schedule 1 listing obligates Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Health Canada to implement risk management measures, which may take the form of regulations, codes of practice, or pollution prevention planning notices.

Hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, 2-ethylhexyl ester functions primarily as a plasticizer and processing aid. It may be present in polymer formulations, coatings, adhesives, and lubricant systems across a wide range of manufactured articles and industrial materials.

Compliance Implications
Manufacturers, importers, and suppliers placing products on the Canadian market should assess whether their articles or mixtures fall within the scope of the risk management measures associated with this listing. Substance declarations in CDX should be reviewed to confirm that they accurately reflect the current regulatory status of this substance under Canadian law.

For further reference, consult the CEPA Registry maintained by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
