TÜV SÜD Accredited as Notified Body Candidate
On February 27, 2026, TÜV SÜD Denmark ApS received official accreditation for the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, confirming its technical competence and organisational independence to assess compliance with the regulation's requirements. As a next step, TÜV SÜD is seeking formal recognition as a Notified Body, which would authorise it to carry out conformity assessments on behalf of battery manufacturers placing products on the European market.
The EU Battery Regulation replaces the previous Battery Directive and introduces a uniform set of directly applicable rules for all battery types, including portable, industrial, and traction batteries for electric vehicles. Beyond traditional safety and performance requirements, it introduces obligations covering carbon footprints, minimum recycled content, supply chain due diligence, battery durability and repairability, and the digital battery passport. For the first time, the manufacture, use, and end-of-life stages of batteries are treated as a coherent regulatory system, making sustainability and transparency verifiable requirements rather than voluntary commitments.
